Notice to members of the public wishing to travel in taxis or private hire vehicles.
Please try to pre-book taxis where possible, as the taxi rank may have limited taxis.
Know the difference:
Taxis will be ranked up at Yellow Gate One. Taxis are clearly identified with the word TAXI on the roof of the vehicle along with an external plate on the rear and an internal plate on the windscreen inside the vehicle. The driver will also have a badge on their person.
It is a legal requirement that the meter that shows the fare that you will be charged is turned on immediately when you commence your journey. A meter must always be used throughout your journey regardless of whether you accept a set fare* before the journey commences, this then shows that you have not be overcharged.
*A pre-agreed or set fare in a Hackney Carriage vehicle must never be more than the meter reading.
Private hire vehicles need to be pre-book by telephone to collect you. It is unlawful for a private hire vehicle to take you unless you have booked them in advance. Private hire vehicles also are identified from an external plate to the rear and an internal plate on the windscreen. The driver will also have a badge on his/her person.
Please ensure you ask the fare to be charged when you make the booking, if you are happy to accept that charge you have entered into a contract and it cannot be altered when you are collected. It is advisable to get quotes from different companies to ensure you are fairly charged.
