The Zen Project’s Tips for Managing Stress: Spend Time in Nature

Did you know that April is Stress Awareness Month? According to a recent study by the Mental Health Foundation, 74% of people report feeling so stressed that they’ve been overwhelmed or unable to cope. We’re here to help!

Our friends at The Zen Project are offering a series of Zen Tips throughout April to relieve stress and help you find your inner zen. Next in our series of Zen Tips for Stress Awareness Month is… Spend Time in Nature!

Spending time in nature is linked both to cognitive benefits and improvements in mood, mental health and emotional wellbeing. According to a recent study, spending just 20 minutes immersed in a nature setting can help to significantly reduce levels of the stress hormone, cortisol. What’s more – after that time, additional stress-reduction benefit accrued more slowly.

So the next time you feel the need to de-stress, head out to your local green space (in-between these April showers!) and soak up the nature around you.
