On Stage

Faber Alt. & BBC Introducing Stage
Thursday

Join the Instant Scorchestra, led by Max Reinhardt as The Theoretical Conductor of Chaos, to perform an improvised score for a stunning piece of 21st century cinema Grand Budapest Hotel (dir. Wes Anderson 2014)

‘…a story within a story within a story (about) the bittersweetness of trying to co-exist forever with special people in your special places’ (Adam Kempenaar).

Imagine fusing cinema with spontaneous live music to create a truly accessible music-making experience for all, with no rehearsals.

All musical abilities and all musical instruments are welcome in our glorious array of instrumentalists, singers and humans, swelled by actor-musician students from Rose Bruford, plus members of the legendary Instant Orchestra and whoever else turns up!

Past guest artists have included Soweto Kinch, Adriano Adewale, Sheema Mukherjee, Orphy Robinson, Bex Burch and Sarah Nicolls.

The fun begins this year before the film has even started – during the soundcheck or ‘prologue’ led by DJ AJ! For the 2025 Instant Scorchestra performance itself, our guest luminaries are: SECKOU KEITA – Kora – (Senegalese griot, Kora virtuoso & pioneer)

ELLIOTT GALVIN – Keyboards (EG Trio, Dinosaur, Walrus, Shabaka Hutchings)

MANDHIRA DE SARAM – Violin (Anna Meredith, Elaine Mitchener, Laura Jurd, Shabaka Hutchings)

RUTH GOLLER – Bass (Alabaster DePlume, Shabaka Hutchings, Melt Yourself Down, Damon Albarn)

Latitude Festival, Lavish Lounge and Instant Scorechestra are delighted to acknowledge loan of instruments and assistance from Oxford Contemporary Music ocmevents.org.
