Across the festival

Emily Buchanan’s hilarious and tender debut Send Flowers follows the story of Fifi, a lapsed activist turned influencer, who, in the depths of her grief, believes her late boyfriend has been reincarnated as a houseplant. It is a stunning story of loss, love, activism and belonging. The novel touches on a range of topical issues including the climate crisis, effective activism, the right to protest and the role of social media when advocating for meaningful change.

Buchanan is an author, climate campaigner and freelance creative.

As Will McCallum, Executive Director of Greenpeace UK, says of the novel, ‘Radical, hopeful stories are exactly what the world needs right now and through her characters, Buchanan gets to the heart of what drives activism now and throughout history: the simple hope that a better world is possible.’
