The Alcove
Norwich’s Arthur Black’s journey into music is anything but ordinary. Raised off-grid, constantly moving between hostels, refuges, and temporary housing, Arthur’s upbringing was shaped by a bohemian, nomadic lifestyle. Music became a refuge after a family tragedy, when Arthur was gifted a guitar and began playing and singing. Without internet access, they learned songs by ear from family CDs and the radio.
At 17, Arthur ran away to Kansas in search of a new life, but after their Green Card was rejected, they returned to the UK. By then, their online following had grown thanks to a series of captivating cover versions. As their confidence in songwriting grew, so did their ambition.
After joining the same Artist Development scheme that has nurtured acts like Nilüfer Yanya, Ed Sheeran, and Let’s Eat Grandma, Arthur formed a band and spent 2024 writing, recording, and performing. They played at festivals such as Latitude, Brighten The Corners, First Light, Reading, and Beyond The Music, cementing their place in the live scene.
Arthur’s music blends the raw emotion of Big Thief with the melodic storytelling of The Cranberries and the timeless energy of Fleetwood Mac. Their debut EP was crafted with an impressive production team, featuring Jack Halsall (Pleasure Inc), Lavar Bullard (Ethel Cain, Kali Uchis, Olivia Rodrigo), and Harry Edwards (Beyoncé, Travis Scott)..
