Latitude 2019 to Celebrate 10 Years of the National Theatre Live with a Screening of War Horse

We’re delighted to reveal that at Latitude Festival this summer you’ll be able to watch an outdoor screening of the National Theatre’s internationally acclaimed production, War Horse.

To make this a truly unforgettable experience, Joey – the groundbreaking War Horse puppet – will also be making a special appearance at the festival in the flesh as well as on screen.

The screening of War Horse at Latitude on 18th July will mark the start of National Theatre Live’s summer of outdoor broadcasts to celebrate 10 years of broadcasting the finest UK theatre in cinemas across the UK and the world. It’s a particularly special broadcast as we’ll be welcoming the groundbreaking War Horse puppet, Joey, to the fields of Henham Park on the day of the broadcast. You’ll have the chance to meet Joey in the Faraway Forest before our screening begins.

War Horse is the most successful play in the National Theatre’s history and has been seen by over seven million people worldwide. Directed by Tony Award winning directors Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, the play is an adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s remarkable and deeply moving story of courage, loyalty and friendship about a young boy called Albert and his horse Joey against the backdrop of the First World War.

War Horse has become renowned for its use of the cutting-edge puppetry by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, which brings the breathing, galloping horses in the play to life. You’ll be able to see this innovative puppetry in real life at Latitude 2019 when Joey makes his debut at the festival on the day of the screening.

National Theatre Live has a rich history of outdoor screenings with Latitude Festival and we’re thrilled to be a part of their 10th anniversary celebrations this summer. In 2017 we screened the NT Live’s 50th production of Tom Stoppard’s brilliantly funny situation comedy, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Joshua McGuire. Back in 2015 we presented a live screening in 2015 of Carol Duffy’s adaptation of one of English drama’s oldest plays, Everyman, starring BAFTA winner and Academy Award nominee, Chiwetel Ejiofor.

The National Theatre Live’s screening of War Horse at Latitude Festival on 18th July 2019 is going to be another unmissable theatre experience.
