Latitude Loves…Christmas

With only 5 days to go until the big day, we’re gifting you with festive tracks by Latitude 2020 artists.

Here to ply you with mulled wine and spin some tunes is Latitude Festival Booker, Ed Lilo. Over to Ed to share his festive tracks for Latitude Loves…Christmas.

It’s Christmas! Did you not realise? A great opportunity to spend time with people you love and eat food that is pretty good – Christmas is brilliant.

Here’s some seasonally appropriate songs from your Latitude 2020 line up. And, do consider gifting Latitude tickets to loved ones – they’ll appreciate it.

Merry Christmas!

Ed.

HAIM – ‘If It Be Your Will’

Happy Hanukkah from our Friday night headliners HAIM with this iconic, stunning Leonard Cohen cover. Wow, their new songs are amazing.the

The Lumineers – ‘Blue Christmas’

Last time The Lumineers played Latitude they had such a big crowd that we couldn’t resist inviting them to return off the back of their exceptionally well-received third album. What works on this track is how different Wesley Schultz’s voice is from Elvis’s. It’s certainly a better version of this song than say Kelly Clarkson’s…though no hate to Kelly, big fan of her work.

Tom Chaplin – ‘Stay Another Day’

Who is Tom Chaplin you say? The singer from Latitude 2020’s penultimate main stage act, local-ish lads Keane. Tom’s Christmas album from a couple of years ago includes this spine-tingling cover of the East 17 classic. It brings real emotional heft to the original.

James Vincent McMorrow – ‘Glacier’

We’re incredibly excited to welcome James Vincent McMorrow to the Obelisk Arena and looking forward to hearing what 2020 has in store for him more broadly. ‘Glacier’ may seem to be scraping the festive barrel somewhat…ice! But, actually it was featured in a Christmas advert as important to Spanish people as the John Lewis one is to us. The ad was for their annual major gambling event ‘El Gordo’…roughly translated as ‘the fat one’.

The Futureheads – ‘Christmas Was Better In The 80s’

We were so sad when The Futureheads’ set was cut short by a rogue electrical storm that we decided to invite them back for Latitude 2020. Here, they bring their angular, anthem-laden art-pop to a theme all will have an opinion on…

Girl Ray – ‘I Wish I Was Giving You The Gift Of Christmas’

Girl Ray’s original Christmas song ‘I Wish I Was Giving You The Gift Of Christmas’ is a certified festive heater. It bridged the gap between their debut album ‘Earl Grey’ and the recently-released ‘Girl’ – the lead single from which is also called ‘Girl’. I love this band so much that I managed to see them twice in a week. Please welcome them to the Obelisk Stage on Saturday of Latitude 2020.

Phoebe Bridgers – ‘Christmas Song’

‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ is a delight and is real Phoebe songwriting. Her ‘Better Oblivion Community Center’ collaboration record earlier this year slaps, but really we’re just excited for anything she’s involved with including a BBC Sounds appearance at Latitude 2020.

Marika Hackman – ‘Winter Wonderland’

We’re all obsessed with Marika’s music but I hadn’t realised until compiling this playlist that she released a Christmas record in 2016 – wow. ‘Winter Wonderland’ closes the six track release and brings a pretty melancholy edge to the song. But, fear not – there are still bells.

Latitude Festival returns to Henham Park, Southwold, Suffolk on 16th-19th July with headliners HAIM, Liam Gallagher, The Chemical Brothers plus Bill Bailey. Tickets on sale now!
