On Stage
Saint Etienne are one of the UK’s best loved and most treasured pop groups.
Formed in 1990 by Croydon’s Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs, Saint Etienne struck gold with their first single ‘Only Love Can Beak Your Heart’ a Neil Young cover version that quickly became a club anthem. Stanley and Wiggs were soon joined by lead singer Sarah Cracknell who made her debut on the group’s 1991 single ‘Nothing Can Stop Us’ and the same year’s Mercury Music Prize-nominated debut LP ‘Fox Base Alpha’.
Their second LP ’So Tough’ went top 10 and was followed by extensive UK touring and in 1994 Saint Etienne were the first band ever to be televised live from Glastonbury Festival. Tours of Europe, the US, Japan and Australia soon followed.
The group’s recent album ‘International’ – their 13th, released in September 2025 – was rapturously received and saw them back in the UK top ten. Although it is their final studio LP, Saint Etienne are not splitting up, and are currently planning a full schedule of live shows for 2026.
