It was an otherwise quiet January in New York City when, in a college dorm still emptied out for the holidays, Miss Grit first came roaring to life.

“It was over winter break, and I decided to go back to school early,” explains Margaret Sohn, the band’s frontwoman, guitar player, songwriter, and producer. “I just started writing; I didn’t even plan on releasing things, I wanted to prove to myself that I could write music I actually liked.” Soon enough it was apparent that the songs she was writing weren’t only impressive enough for her to like, but to catch the ears of a much wider audience.
