The Unthanks
Northumberland folk group The Unthanks are added to the Obelisk Arena. Previously called Rachel Unthank and the Winterset, until last year, their poignant and honest storytelling has set them apart from their peers and pricked the interest of the British consciousness. Their debut album, ‘Cruel Sister’ was awarded Folk Album of the Year by Mojo magazine with the follow-up album, ‘The Bairns’, receiving a nomination for the Best Album Award at the BBC Folk Awards 2008 and the 2008 Mercury Music Prize.
Their dark and atmospheric, piano-led third album, ‘Here's The Tender Coming’, released last year, has further cemented their hold on the British folk scene and their performance at Latitude will no doubt win many more hearts.
