Daughter
Named Vogue’s ‘Artist of the Week’ in 2011, Daughter was originally just Elena Tonra but the singer’s solo project has since expanded into a trio featuring Igor Haefeli on guitar and Remi Aguilella on drums. Signed to 4AD since last year, the band first came into being after Elena started writing poems before turning them into wistful experimental folk songs. After showcasing her demo tracks online at the end of 2010, she released her debut EP proper the following year and went on to record sessions for BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 1. Once Daughter became a trio, the band immediately started work on their debut album and the resulting record ‘If You Leave’ will be released in March. With lyrical subjects having previously included death, ghosts and unrequited love, Daughter’s strikingly intimate music makes for a captivating live show festival-goers will find impossible to resist this weekend. Make sure you don’t even try.
